FOR BRITS RESIDENT IN FLORIDA: UK PENSION and SOCIAL SECURITY MATTERS

1. In USA 1-800-772-1213  WEBSITE for all states for the Social Security Administration: www.socialsecurity.gov   Get all info from their website, which will tell you exactly how much you will be paid and how to apply. Social Security is paid to resident Brits employed in the USA who have been paying into Social Security here for years.

2. UK PENSIONS..for USA expat Brits who have paid into a UK pension scheme, paid UK social security, national insurance stamp etc.and want to find out if you are eligible to receive anything. Your records will still be in the UK Government system and you may be entitled to some payment, however small and however long ago you lived/worked in the UK.  Write to them 6 months before reitrement age.  There is only one way to find out: Dig up your old UK work records, social security number if possible and contact:

THEN:    They mail you several forms, you send them back to the UK and they wire your pension in US dollars direct into your US bank account.  It's very efficient.   They'll even wire you back any payment you're owed, if you mailed in forms late [ after retirement age].   

NOTE: If you are receiving social security benefits in the UK the amount American authorities pay you for US social security will be decreased. UTTERLY UNWARRANTED AND UNFAIR AND OUTRAGEOUS, since you have paid your money into both. If you don't tell US authorities, it's your call to be honest or not. But they have means of finding out anyway, due to a reciprocal UK-USA reporting agreement established in 1998. There's also a line on your tax-return asking you to declare all income from foreign sources. But to clarify the situation beforehand and get current answers, you should contact the USA Social Security on 1-800-772-1213. Ask under a fake name, if necessary, but ASK! FOR NEW EXPAT APPLICANTS REACHING PENSION AGE: The UK pensions department have an agreement with the USA authorities to notify them you are getting a UK pension.
