SOCIAL SECURITY AND PENSION MATTERS

USA 1-800-772-1213 www.ssa.gov Get all info from them. That's the official
Social Security Administration for all states including Florida. This is for resident Brits employed in the USA who have been paying into Social Security here for years.
- 2] UK
PENSIONS...for Florida-based Brits who have paid into a UK pension
scheme, paid social security, national insurance stamp etc.and want to
find out if you are eligible to receive anything. Your records will
still be in the UK Government system and you may be entitled to some
payment, however small and however long ago you lived/worked in the UK.
There is only one way to find out: Dig up your old UK work records,
social security number if possible and contact: UK Department of
Social Security, OVERSEAS DEPARTMENT in Newcastle. Phone from Florida:

Newcastle on Tyne NE98 1YX, England. Their ONLY OFFICIAL website is: www.thepensionservice.gov.uk You'll find your questions answered there. If you write to them, don't forget to mark the envelope OVERSEAS DEPARTMENT, so it gets to the right room.
3] If you receive a UK pension and declare that to the American authorities they will dock your US pension. UTTERLY UNWARRANTED. But you are supposed to tell them, so your moral call: Be law-abiding or not. They have means of finding out anyway. [There's also aline on your tax-return asking you to declare all income from foreign sources]. But to clarify the situation beforehand and get current answers, you should contact the USA Social Security on 1-800-772-1213. Ask under a fake name, if necessary, but ASK! Also ask your accountant.
