In January 2007 the British Consulate in Miami was
made a full Consulate-General, reflecting the growing importance of Florida to the British Government. The Orlando
office remains just a Consulate. The Consul-General's team in Miami performs the
full range of consulate roles, including consular, trade and
investment, and political. The consulate in Orlando only performs
consular work, with their focus on the many thousands of UK visitors to
the area each year. The British Consulate in Orlando is responsible for
providing Consular Services (i.e. Support for British nationals) throughout
Florida, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
This office is also responsible for managing the British government
response to any catastrophe, such as a major hurricane etc, that may occur in
the region. Their services range from providing assistance if you have
suffered rape, or a serious assault, are a victim of crime, in hospital or if
you have been arrested or are in jail.
They also offer help and support in a range of other
cases, such as child abductions, death of relatives overseas, missing people,
kidnapping, and assisting Brits suffering from a mental illness.

ATTENTION BRITONS IN
FLORIDA [RESIDENTS and VISITORS]: DO YOU
NEED TO REGISTER WITH THE CONSULATE? You don't have to, but the Consulate
encourages all British nationals living and travelling overseas to register
with the Foreign Office's new on-line registration system called Locate. What are the benefits of
registering? Many, but just think, if a catastrophe
occurs, such as a major hurricane, tsunami, or terrorist attack, the Consulate
will have an instant record of your details so that they can contact you to
make sure you’re OK and provide advice and assistance. Or if family and friends need to get in touch
with you urgently, for example if a family member dies when you are away on
your holidays, the Consulate can help them to find you. More information: http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travelling-and-living-overseas/Locate/
To register: https://www.locate.fco.gov.uk/locateportal/
ALSO: UK PUBLIC SERVICES Have a question about the National Health Service? Want to find out about taking your pet to the
UK? Need a UK driving licence? The Consulate-General does not handle these
types of enquiries, but visit www.direct.gov.uk
for all the very latest up-to-date information about UK public services. It's all there!
