Lauderdale I always used only local British workers, to give them the business. My electrician, plumber, sprinkler man, roofer --all local Britsih professionals in the construction business. Each of them did an excellent job for me at a fair price. There was the "blackmail" factor, ha ha, with them always joking out loud "better do a bloody good job for Kawaja or she'll put it in the newspaper." As if I would. Fellow Brits, as with anybody you hire, do your due diligence, check out licences, years in business etc.
